The new Canada’s Food Guide arrives

Finally, the long-awaited Canada’s Food Guide was unveiled earlier this year,  with some long overdue updates. The new Food Guide now actually accounts for age and gender differences in its recommendations. As anyone would expect, it encourages eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, as well as the usual recommended limitations on foods high in calories, fat, sugar and salt.
Another unique element of the new guide though, is that it emphasizes the importance of combining regular exercise with healthy eating habits. Seeing how easy it is for us Canadians to slip into unhealthy eating and living habits when many of us lead such busy lives and rely so heavily on convenience, we really need to make more of an effort to make better choices.
