If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you’re probably thinking that I’ve jumped way off track. You’re right on that, but this is a topic of grave importance. It’s something I’ve been dealing with my whole life, pretty much. It’s called the menstruation cycle, as so many women know, but it comes with a vicious variety of problems. I have what I call ‘bad spells’, where pain hits its peak. Regurgitation, stomach pain and nausea all come into play, mercilessly tormenting me for hours on end.
The obvious response to this would be medicine. Unfortunately, during those bad spells of mine, I can’t digest water. Birth control pills are another option, but my body refuses to adjust to them. I’m not too fond of sacrificing my daily wellbeing in exchange for daily vomiting and nausea. That’s just my cycle all over again, without the flow and actual sickness.
So what can [...]

Yes - I smoked.
The first one was Saturday night. The end of the third (and hardest) day of going cold turkey. I had a lovely beer and a not so lovely fag to celebrate finding a new flat to live in. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
I had a couple more on Sunday as…well…you can’t quit on a Sunday can you? (addicts mind talking here) Has to be a Monday. Monday was fine - not one fag. Tuesday was good as well until I got home and V had brought some baccy. So I had a fag. And today I am climbing the walls.
What is the matter with me that I can’t just stop smoking for good. I see all these amazing blogs about people who have successfully quit…why can’t [...]

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon and CNN health reporter, is the leading contender to become the next surgeon general, a pick that will give the moribund office a higher profile but one that has received a mixed reaction among public health advocates.
Dr. Gupta, who confirmed on Twitter that he had been approached by the Obama transition team, discussed the job with the president-elect late last year in Chicago. He did not return an e-mail seeking comment.
According to people at CNN and in the Obama transition team, Dr. Gupta is likely to make a decision about taking the job within a few days. News of his selection was first reported Tuesday by The Washington Post.
In New Testament times swords were not for digging, shaving, or whittling. They were for killing. The only reason Peter cut off Malchus’s ear was that he missed (John 18:10).
But Herod didn’t miss: “He killed James the brother of John with the sword” (Acts 12:2).
Many saints have felt the full force of the sword: “They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword” (Hebrews 11:37). So it was and will be: “If anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain” (Revelation 13:10).
That’s what swords are for. So when Paul calls the word of God the “sword of the Spirit” in Ephesians 6:17, he is serious—something must be put to death. And it is not people. Christians don’t kill people to spread our faith; we die to spread our faith.
The link in Paul’s mind [...]

By Sherry Morris
It’s a new year and a new chance to become healthier and happier. Granted, I have adorable children and a hunky husband, and I’m privileged to be an at-home Mom. But I did slip into inertia last year and it caught up with me. Yep, gained some of my weight back. I will not buy larger clothes, yet I don’t want to diet again…yet.
I know I eventually will have to cut out some of the goodies or I’ll split my jeans. I have three pairs: The St. John’s Bay jeans from JC Penney’s are size 8 Petite. The Lee jeans from Wal*Mart are size 6 Short and the Denim & Co. jeans from QVC are size 4 Petite. They all fit me the same. Snug. I don’t think it’s fair to people that different manufactures size the same garmet differently. Even when I was at my fattest (over [...]

In the days of insurance, ambulance chasing and blame & claim cultures, I guess the evidence of practice is needed for promoting the professions as well as protecting them.
We spend 4-5 years training to become osteopaths (or chiropractors) covering everything from embryology to psychology, as well as detailed anatomy and physiology, so we do have levels of skill and knowledge in what we are doing. In fact, I might venture, we probably have a greater knowledge about musculo-skeletal anatomy and biomechanics than most GPs, however, we don’t know anywhere near as much about pharmacology or surgery as they do.
Occasionally we get high profile criticism, as was the case in 2006, when Professor Edzard Ernst and collaborators produced a piece of research entitled “A Systematic Review Of Systematic Reviews Of [...]
